Virus warning downloading extend-codegen-ini Windows release

Hi folks,

I was trying to run Unity API codegen for my service extension. I downloaded the latest codegen windows EXE (as there isn’t any source from which to build it) from the AB repo.

After I downloaded accelbyte-codegen-windows_amd64.exe, Windows Virus and Threat protector alerted that there was a virus detected and quarantined the file. Specifically, it triggered for Trojan:Win32/Phonzy.A!ml.

This is on Windows 10 Home:

Edition Windows 10 Home
Version 22H2
Installed on ‎09-‎Aug-‎22
OS build 19045.4046
Experience Windows Feature Experience Pack 1000.19053.1000.0

Any ideas?

Hello again, it’s me from the Extend team.

Yes, this is a known issue (1, 2, 3, 4) that’s due to a tool (PyInstaller) we are using to compile the code generator into an executable file.

Here are some workarounds that you could try:

  • You can use the latest linux version of the file inside WSL
  • Designate the problematic file as safe (for now).

Currently, we are actively exploring alternative approaches to mitigate this issue.
We extend our gratitude for your valuable feedback and patience during this process.
